Happy World Down Syndrome Awareness Day!

Every year on 21 March, we celebrate World Down Syndrome Awareness Day—a day to recognise the incredible individuals with Down syndrome and to promote understanding, acceptance, and genuine inclusion. It’s more than just recognising the day; it’s about taking real steps to create a society where everyone feels valued, respected, and supported.

The image has a teal background with large white and yellow text in the centre that says: "HAPPY WORLD DOWN SYNDROME DAY!" Around the text, there are seven circular photos of people wearing black t-shirts with the words "PERFORM ABILITY" written on them. Some are smiling, giving thumbs up, or posing with others. The circles have yellow and purple borders. At the bottom right, there is a globe wrapped in a yellow and blue ribbon, with small figures holding hands on top. The words "PERFORM ABILITY" are placed over the globe.

At Perform Ability, we see firsthand the joy, talent, and determination our students bring to our programs. Their love for the performing arts and beyond shows why inclusive spaces matter. When everyone has the opportunity to participate, express themselves, and be celebrated, the entire community benefits. That’s why we collaborate with professionals, community organisations, advocacy groups, and disability support networks to create meaningful opportunities for dancers of all abilities.

The image is divided into two sections. On the left side, a person is standing against a yellow background, wearing mismatched knee-high socks with bright colours and playful pattern. Above them, a purple circle contains the text, "Wearing odd socks all week for Down Syndrome Awareness Day!", while a blue circle below highlights the event dates, "17th-21st March". The words "ODD SOCKS" are written vertically in bold yellow and purple text. On the right side, a top-down view shows multiple feet wearing mismatched socks on a wooden floor, featuring various colours and patterns like stripes and polka dots. The top reads "LOTS OF SOCKS", while another states "LOTS OF LOVE" alongside heart graphics. The final message encourages participation with the words, "Mismatch your socks, match our mission on Down Syndrome Awareness Day!", reinforcing the spirit of inclusivity and support for the cause.

To celebrate World Down Syndrome Awareness Day, we’re adding a splash of fun! From 17 to 21 March, we are wearing odd socks to show our support. Why odd socks? Because differences should be embraced, and what better way to start the conversation than with something playful and visual? We invite you to join us—put on your mismatched socks, snap a photo, and share it to help spread awareness!

Every small action matters. Every conversation that raises awareness, every moment of support, and every commitment to inclusivity makes a difference. By celebrating World Down Syndrome Awareness Day, we’re not just participating in a tradition—we’re making a statement. We’re standing together, embracing differences, and building a world where every individual is valued and given the opportunity to thrive.

Let’s keep learning, listening, and working together—because inclusion starts with all of us. Are you in?
